Does anyone else get knocked sick when they are doing the placemats and coasters - the smell of it makes me gag LOL
I've got the windows and doors wide open and it still stinks

I presume you may be talking about cork based? These we don't mind but do have a strong aroma. The normal hardboard ones don't seem to give out a smell for us. The substrates we hate to do because of the small are cotton tote bags and for these we always wear a face mask.

I took very ill from the fumes coming out of the hardboard coasters last year.
Had little ventilation in the room i was using at the time - now have a much larger working space with large windows and a larger / better build heat press which makes a difference.
I now use a face mask when pressing any type of coaster - a typical run for for me is 200+ so its 45 minutes of being right next to the machine taking in the fumes.

The non cork backed ones can also give out a strong smell, plenty of space and ventilation needed. If not, you need some sort of extraction unit or at least a strong fan.
I'm not aware that this is toxic in any way but can't be 100% sure.

These are hardboard ones and they stink! I'm sure they are giving me a headache even though I only do very few at a time. Think I might need to rethink where abouts I do these so I get a bit more air flowing through.

I can recommend a Dog De Bordeaux to solve this problem. The smells he comes out with are far worse than anything sublimation can throw at me....

we use respirators, eps me....as the fumes from rubber mouse mats and wood coasters make me ill indeed.....goes right for my chest if i dont wear it, and i start to feel real bad after about 30 mins of constant cooking ;(...not to mention the bloody taste lingers in ones mouth and throat for hrs after..yuk !
plus we have 3 xlarge fans on all time and all windows/door open while we cook products
