Hi, peoples, had my Mug press arrive from china on Friday is there anything I should be aware of is there any way of testing the actual temps.

Its a freesub with the touch LCD see attachment, not sure if its any good but I guess I will find out lol, I do have access to the generic types but thought I would give this a go first well because it looked pretty lol no much info out there on them.

Its supposed to be white grey its closer to a green though lol probably radioactive paint on it.

There is not really a way of testing the temp of the element (apart from perhaps using an infrared thermometer that would normally be used to measure brake disc temps on cars / trucks)

For standard 11oz sublimation mugs I usually advise to set the press temp to 175c (they fluctuate +/-5c when pressing so 175c is a safe bet) set time to 180 seconds.

My method for mugs is as follows-

1) Set temp and time
2) Allow press to come up to temperature
3) When press is at temp insert a room temperature mug
4) Close clamp and press (clamp should be firm to close but not overly tight)
5) Press for 180 seconds
6) When timer expires remove mug from press
7) Allow the mug to cool for 1-2 mins with the paper transfer on
8) Remove paper transfer when cool... and you're done

2) Allow press to come up to temperature WITH A SPARE BLANK MUG INSERTED to protect the heat blanket.

7) and 8) Dunk mug into lukewarm water to immediately stop the sublimation process and remove the wet wrap when sufficiently cooled.

Works for me, but everyone seems to have their own method.

Some debate over the years about dunking and general consensus is to air dry to avoid hairline cracks that aren't always visible. We had a post here recently about a mug cracking when customer put hot water in. I used to dunk myself but only air dry now and no longer have any issues. I do put them in front of a fan to cool quickly though.

Ah yes, as Justin says insert a blank mug whilst bringing press up to temp.

Personally I do not dunk the mug and allow them to air cool to prevent cracking from sudden changes in temperature. But everyone has their own method and tricks. Have a go and find what works for you, it may be a little different to other people but as long as it works for you.

I always get my staff to dunk after each mug!

I never used to dunk but recently had a very dark blue logo with black text for the staff names and left to dry as normal and they bled all over. Luckily I had only done two mugs and noticed the black start to spread in front of my eyes. So straight to the kitchen got the washing up bowl and started dunking. Only dunk now.
Should say same ink, printer and mugs that I have always used, well the box has been sitting for a while as I do more signs than sublimation now.

Thanks, Peoples for the replies, I have been running the heat press at 200c will drop it and see if it changes anything would rather use a lower temp if possible.
I have been air cooling with the fan after taking the paper off will try leaving the paper on and see what if it makes any difference be a hell of a lot
less pain if I could

I did have some shadowing when I was using copy paper stopped using the copy paper and the shadowing stopped, not sure why that was maybe it was slipping?

Wow. I always remove the paper as soon as it comes out of the press.

I will give it a go with a cold peel tomorrow
