Hi,
Doing a nozzle check and the black and cyan is not printing. When I try to print something in black, it just comes out magenta? any ideas?

Hi. Could you supply us with more information.
Have you done any head cleans?
Do you turn off your printer between jobs?
Are your inks still in date?
Have you contacted Sawgrass?

Yes, head cleans don't do very much.
Yes.
Yes.
No, 3rd party inks.

Thanks for that.
If, by 3rd party inks, you mean some unknown brand from the likes of ebay, then it could well be the inks that are causing the problem.
My Ricoh printer (basically the same as a Sawgrass SG400/800) is on standby 24/7. Keeping your printer on all the time in maintenance or eco mode allows it to keep the heads clean and reduces the chance of blocked nozzles.
It may be that you now need to thoroughly flush out the existing inks and replace with new, preferably from a reputable supplier, who will also provide you with an ICC profile for their inks.

I'm trying to flush the printer head, but I keep getting an error during the process. Error code 28000. Sound familiar?

The Ricoh Service Manual says 'Air sensor error.'
When you say you are trying to flush the print head, do you mean with the original ink still in the machine? Flushing uses a LOT of ink so maybe the carts are emptying and air is being drawn into the system.
Anyway, when I suggested flushing out the old inks and replacing with new, I meant flushing with new inks installed as I think it's the old inks that are causing you problems. Personally, I'd buy new carts and fill them with good quality inks from the likes of InkExperts (who advertise in the forum), or City Ink Express. There's a procedure for swapping inks that needs to be followed and I can PM you a PDF file to follow should you decide to do this.

I am flushing with the new ink installed. The ink is also good quality from a reputable supplier.
When I try flushing the head with the new ink, I get the "Air sensor error". I think once I can get a full head flush, my problems will be resolved. It's just getting there. Any advice as to what could be causing the printer flush error?

Do you have all of your cartridges properly seated, with the vent plugs open?

I do. Which is making me think that maybe the black cartridge is faulty? Because it just isn't printing any black at all.

There is a new error now. Paper misfeed, open top cover. But there is definitely no paper jam. Any idea?
