In my line of work I supply lots of visual aids and window decals.

but I’m being asked for banners and haven’t really any idea how to go about making them from start to finish.
from my understanding....

1. Print banner
2. let it dry (gas off) overnight.
3. apply edge it tape (easier option over hemming)
4. apply eyelets
5. Ship out.

That's pretty much it.

Depending on what you are printing (i.e. long term/birthday stuff) then you may not need to hem/edge tape, but obviously that is your call.

Workflow looks about right.

I find tape better than hemming, and probably stronger. With the BN20 you probably couldn't afford to sacrifice the width lost when hemming.
Roll the banner back onto itself when packing, otherwise the tape will cause the front to crease along the edges.

Just bought myself the eyelet punch from MDP. Excellent product - loads the eyelets automatically - and it actually works perfectly.

when you say roll it back do you mean printed side inside the roll?

no. printed side out.

Like vinyl then.

Just to update this thread a little more.

purchased the following items a few days after starting this thread.

A 1520mm log of banner vinyl from grafityp and had it split into 3x 500mm logs.
An automatic eyelet machine from mdp complete with hemming tape and pencil.
A roll of pvc double sided tape. (Sticky as f**k)

1st banner was ok but not great so I binned it.
2nd banner was good learnt a lot from just two banners.

Trialed between hemming tape and pvc tape and even after approx 15 banners I prefer hemming tape.

double sided tape is a nightmare once it touches its on, there’s no messing about.
I was lining all four sides and folding over then eyeleting, but I found the machine struggles to penetrate The two layers and tape.
This may be a eyelet issue?

hemming tape is also not forgiving once it touches the banner but I find it easier to apply.
Again I was covering all four sides but overlapping the corners. This gave me a massive headache as the machine won’t penetrate the banner and two layers of hemming tape, I was pulling out eyelets with pliers and re eyeleting. (Bloody nightmare)

What I do now.
I use hem tape along the top and bottom only.
will they last only time will tell.

if the banner is full colour to the edge then I have to use tape.
I do like printing banners but it’s time consuming on the bn20.

Im not convinced the auto eyelet machine is any good though.
I have pulled and reset so many eyelets it’s been a right mare.

I am really pleased with mine ( using 550gsm banner and heming tape), certainly no worse than the alternative eyelet presses.

Are you pulling the handle down firmly enough? Don't ram it but just good firm pressure all the way down.

I have tried firm pressure with slow pulling to quick jabbing in one go with awful results.
im even considering pre cutting the holes before pressing the eyelets.

We were looking at one of these eyelet punches, we currently use a hanolex which is super but a little slow, we have used banner tape and it does work well although we weld the hem as it does look better.
