Hi everyone, I've searched the forum for hours but the threads I've found on this subject are a few years out of date so I thought I'd ask the question myself.

It's an old age question I suppose, but what do you go for, less profit and more sales or more profit and smaller sales? Ideally I'd like both lol but joking aside, what do you consider a good profit on a mug? I've seen prices on ebay and etsy that are both ends of the scale (some I don't know how they can be making anything, and the other side that I'd be delighted if I sold for that price)! I'm getting sales and people like them but not enough so I'd like to find the sweet spot.

If no one minds, what are you pricing personalised mugs (quite complicated designs) at or if that is too personal what do you consider a good profit on say a personalised mug? I know what my costings are per mug but because I'm pretty new to this business I don't know if I am charging too much (I think I am!). Thanks all, hope nobody minds the question.

Things to consider.
What do you want to charge?
where are you selling?
who are you selling to?

etsy for instance you can get silly money for a mug even above £14 for one mug if the target audience is right.
ebay you will be lucky to get over £10 and be prepared for the it hasn’t arrived brigade.
but even 2nd class parcel has confirmed delivery now.

bone China mugs will fetch more than builders mugs but again this depends on your design.

Personally I charge £9.99 for a mug posted.
this includes the polystyrene mailer and poly bag and all the selling fees so profit is t great but any more than £9.99 and you will get those expecting gold plated mugs.

Anything under £7 will just shout home made bedroom crafter.

Thanks Mr T! Yes I am definitely a bit overpriced at the moment for ebay. I need to change my mindset, I come from a selling collectables/vintage background so you get used to wanting a minimum good profit as the items being sold are one offs. I have never sold volume items before so it's totally different. I think I could safely knock a couple of quid off and still be happy if I sold a few a day.

If you are thinking of selling on ebay why not forget about selling single mugs? If you sell singles on ebay you are up against the hobbyists happy to earn £1 a mug.
If you advertise a set of 3, 4 or 6 identical mugs you can work on a lower unit price per mug but still earn a reasonable profit due to the saving on postage - you can go up to 2kg on a RM small parcel 2nd class signed for less than a fiver.
Better than being a busy fool.

Must sound like a v silly question but what type of bag do you use.

I have googled the polystyrene mug mailers... but what type of bag do you use for shipping. Do you have any links or pics.

BTW I understand there may not be massive profits involved, but if you are selling 100 a day... I'm sure it all adds up [emoji846]
