Depends on what packaging you are using but does seem a bit high.

Generally I charge 2.99 P&P but that is for first class (and includes a strong mug mailer box, label, bubble wrap, taking it to the post office etc) - so it's not a bad price.
An 110z mug with a mug mailer box and bubble wrap will weigh in at around 400g. Royal mail will charge you £2.48 for first class and £2.16 for second class if you buy postage online or at the counter.... you can get it cheaper by franking mail (I'm currently looking into that myself).

to me, £2.99 for postage of a mug 1st class seems reasonable.
P&P is exactly that and you should not only work out any materials used and costs incurred for posting the item but also (worse case scenario) if you have to go out of your way to post it.
Me, I have a 10 minute drive and a 2 minute walk to post anything and I post stuff every day even if it's 1 item or 10. I use labels, bubble wrap, poly boxes and fragile tape - plus the postage and any fuel costs (small I know, but they are there) gives me a P&P price of £2.99 for mugs.
