Hi, my name is Nik and I've joined as I am expanding on what we already do. We have been producing vinyl car stickers/decals for a few years but have increased our range to include wall art and other stuff for the home. We also knock out a few fridge magnets and key rings. On top of that we produce 'printed' (heat pressed vinyl) canvas bags, baby vests, tshirts, etc. We have had our b&m shop, which is actually a sweet shop, for two years - our other work (vinyl work) is mainly online sales. Sweet shops do not pull in a great deal of cash so we are hoping to make it a sweet shop/gift shop and to do that we need to do a bit more which is why I have joined the forum. Over the past few weeks I have been researching dye-sub and have got myself kitted out with a used Epson R1800, mug press, a few mugs, paper, etc - we're just missing the inks! Like a dumb ass newbie, I was under the impression that dye ink rather than pigment was all that was needed so you can imagine us scratching our heads when we couldn't get an image transfered to a mug after several attempts :redface:. I'm hoping that we're not the only ones to make this sort of mistake! However, I've already found lots of very useful information on this forum which will help us.

Welcome to the forum. Just a small piece of advice re the R1800 - the sublimation inks are going to be expensive to get gaining. You'll need 6 colours (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Red, Blue and Black plus the cleaning solution - the blacks are both the same in sublimation so only one black ink needed), plus you'll need a CIS or refillable carts. Make sure the R1800 prints PERFECTLY with ordinary inks before spending money on sublimation inks.

Martin, when I bought the R1800, I took the printhead out and gave it a good clean and then fitted a new set of cartridges. After a few draft prints, I then did an A4 print of our Rottie for my missus, the quality is fantastic so I can safely say it is printing exactly as it should in fact it makes our brand new HP officejet look rubbish!
