A few years ago I was big into selling on Ebay, the fees were a bit of a killer but could still make a few quid to keep me at it, I signed up for a lifetime mebership of a rival site Ebid, nowhere near the sales I got on ebay but with the lifetime membership I get free insertion on every auction & can run upto 5 online shops for free at anyone time with payments handled by google checkout & paypal, Im thinking along the lines of setting up the ebid shops & linking to them through my own picprintpress site & facebook as an easy means to complete online purchase, all items would be a buy it now, rather than auction. Has anyone done anything similar & if so was there any pitfalls, any advice greatly received.

I'll be honest I've never heard of ebid. maybe I live a very narrow life, always stuck in the shop or on the pc.

There is the downside that Ebid just don't have the volume of customers currently, but give it a shot. You may be surprised, and with free insertion fees you can't go wrong. What are the fees for completed sales?

Didnt even ralise it was still going. Tried it - wasted a lot of time listing stuff never sold a bean. You can reinvent the wheel I am afraid

Here are the thoughts of other users:-
Ebid, Tazbar, CQout, specialistauctions - they've all tried to tackle the might of eBay and have failed, which is a real shame as eBay have done their very best to destroy the business from within for years.

I was a trader on eBay for many years selling a fair few items (4 - 500 per month approx) and saw the site go from exciting, vibrant marketplace to a total shambles. A string of idiotic policies have made the site a sad shadow of it's former self.

Until these competitors get serious and dedicate a proper amount of cash to a sustained PR / publicity campaign they will remain on the sidelines.

Both those links are over a year old and Ebid are still not a viable option. I listed my best selling items and got nothing like the sales that I got on Ebay and with the sales I did get there was a high rate of timewasters not paying.

Sounds like ebay is still the best bet then. I haven't used Ebid myself so cannot comment how good or bad it is really

Just had to resurrect this one.
I just went to buy something on ebay which costs £6 plus postage.
Then put the item into google to see if someone sold it cheaper and up comes the exact same advert, same seller user name etc with the same product being sold for £5 with free postage.

I emailed the seller via ebay to see if he would do a deal [:-)]
Never heard of ebid before, I actually thought it was a section of ebay when I saw the ad
What's the thought on this site now please, anyone found it worth while?
