Friend of mine asked if I could look at her website, she gave me login details, someone set it up for them and has left them alone to run it with no support by the looks of it.

The site appears to be a Wordpress site. Obviously I've heard of WP but have never had anything to do with it whatsoever Am I right in thinking this is just a blog or can you host a site in this way?

Thought that was the case, thanks Steve. I'll have a dig around the admin panel, see if I can make head nor tail of it :-)

You can run a WP site as just a blog or as a full website. There's tons of gadgets/widgets etc to enhance them, and changing the schema is just a matter of applying a theme, like a skin.
As you can very easily add pages to it, it doesn't need hi-tech support, just a keen interest in blogging - writing a new article is just that, up to the author whether it appears as a new page of a continuation of an existing one.

Cheers for that. They just want me to set up a link to a new page, couple of basic changes......once I get my head around it.

Just remember they definitely need a link to the DSF (whether they want it or not lol)

You can use WP as a cms tool for your site and put addons to cover ecommerce apps, blogs, normal sites anything really.
it gives a slightly smaller nicer alternative to fat cms tools like joomla, so ideal for sme sites.

Once you get your head around the difference between pages and posts, it is relatively easy to use.

Hopefully it was not modified much by the original web designer - The last Wordpress site I modified for a client was heavily customised by the original web designer. Took an age to get my head around the code.

Just make sure it has the latest version of Wordpress - but prior to upgrading, first check that any plugins being used support the latest version.

Well, just having a look at this site, all I can see is links to blog pages etc. Can't find anything that allows me to edit the webpage :-(

OK, remind me not to offer any favours in the future! Really can't get my head around this site. All looks straightforward enough, edit the theme, add to the Main Menu and so on.....but it just doesn't seem to be working for me!

Anyone give me a head start and take a quick look at this for me please?
