hello,
I posted here before as i was going to get a new printer. The current one went last night in the middle of a large order. I was wondering If i went to town to get a cheap one SX130 or S22 and try find a shop with a blank cartridge. Would this work for now, just refilling an empty inkjet cartridge that may have no reset chip, and fill it.
Also, Is there much difference between SX130 or S22?
Thank you
A

If you can find refillable carts for the printer you buy, then yes, this would work. There are obviously plenty of sellers on Ebay selling them, and if you look you may find one based close enough to you to go and pick up.

I would imagine the SX130 has a similar print mechanism to the S22 (with the addition of a scanner unit for copying). I know they take the same cartridges so differences are likely to be minimal.

with one of them having the scanner at the top, does this not affect the way you connect a ciss to it? I know with the D120, you had to remove the lid for the cartridge port to be able to use continuous ink.
Thanks

I would discount the use of a CISS in favour of using refillable cartridges in these machines as they seem notorious for ink feed issues with CISS.

I was in a similar situation as you nearly 3 years ago & I nipped down to Staples & bought a cheap Epson S21 after my Epson D120 had decided to die on me. I used the Epson D88 sublimation ICC profile which worked & which meant I could get all my orders out. I fitted a CISS which I bought off Ebay but, had to do a few modifications to make sure the tubes cleared.
I have been using this printer ever since & the only problem with it is it's a bit noisy but, I can live with that. On top of this I have never had a block cartridge or any problems with the CISS at all. Yes, some people have had issues with the CISS but, to say they seem notorious is wrong in my opinion.
I would suggest you have a search on You Tube to see how the CISS is fitted to each printer first then decide but, also think about maybe a supported printer at some point in the future.

I have the sx130 with refillable cartridges. Wouldn't even contemplate a ciss system as I've heard to many bad reviews on blockages etc.

With respect some of us do speak from our own experience.

Depends on the definition of notorious, but given the frequency we take calls from people that have bought an S21 or more recently the S22 and are having issues then I'd say the issues are common enough with this printer type, whether standard printer or multifunction machine.
