Angie pressed a Coralgraph rock slate this morning and the print was very faint!
Stupid question but do these slates have a protective film on the surface?
She followed the instructions:
Sublimating slates.
Temperature: 205c/400f
Time: 480secs
Pressure: Medium/Heavy
Pre-press the slate with the silicon mat for 70secs to take any moisture out and to warm the slate up.
Print your image slightly larger than the slate and wrap it around the slate using tape to secure in place.
Press for 480secs and allow to cool fully before removing the paper.

No.
Did she press it as follows:
HEAT ELEMENT - PAPER - SLATE - HEAT PRESS BED?
I always press at 195 degrees C for 540 seconds and not had a failure in the 10 or so that I have done.

Jon. It sounds like pressing settings from one of my videos! If you watch the video you will see.those settings works perfect. I would check if platen was heated.to righttemp or if its.not faulty.
Any chance to see the.photo of this slate please?

Hi Paul,
I watched your video "Brilliant" I used a very thick silicon sheet I think that was the problem. we are going to print another one this afternoon and use a thin silicon sheet. Will keep you posted. Thanks all for your help

this might be it then. use very thin one as this is only to protect and even the surface up. so no need for huge thick silicon there
Good luck Angie!

Can I use greaseproof paper instead of silicon for protection. I haven't done one yet, but am dying to try it.

I've printed about 8 slates so far, not had a problem, started using silicone for the last 3 but the others I used without and they turned out fine.
