Hi everyone
i am useing photoshop cs4 to edit my photos onto a template for mugs. My partner bought a machine for pressing pictures onto plates. Didnt even see this machine yet. All i wanted to know is the steps to putting a circle over a photo the size of the inside of the plate. I tried this in cs4 but all i get is a black circle over my photographs. I cant seem to get this part of my software to work. Its not the softwares fault but mine. has anyone here have any ideas? :D

Is it not a case of doing layers?

Put the black circle as one layer, and then the photo on top as a seperate layer?

go and press File > New
set the size whatever you wish to print.
take the eliptical marque tool
Image

then hold the shift buttom and draw your circle of your preffered size.
Image

then hold alt and click twice on little pudlock on your layer till it diesapear
Image

if diesapered click EDIT > CUT
Image

inside of your circle should diesapear and should look like that:
Image

now you ready to place photograph in your new template :)
Image
if you adjust it to your needs then you can place it "behind" the template layer. simply drag it down :)
Image

finaly should look like this ready to print for your plates :D
Image

hope this help.

I tried what you said Kaz and it still would not let me do what i want to do. I think i am on the right track to inverse the circle to see the picture through it. But alas to no avail. thanks for trying to help me anyway.

there is one more option to do. is more simple but I would sugest to use that one I just posted (above) so circle stay always this same size.
but this is other option:

open image.
same way draw circle around it
Image

then click select > invert
Image

click on the little pudlock twice so picture is unlocked
Image

then click edit > cut
Image

it will look like that
Image

hope it help ;)
