Had a great start to the weekend. 2 months notice to vacate the house! We knew it was coming sometime, as we found out just after we moved into the property in 2008 that the landlord had planning permission to build on the plot, but hoped for a bit more actual notice. The trouble is that we can't really afford to move. My husband has been off work due to an attack at work in 2011 and only gets £43 per week sick pay. I work 16 hrs a week. We have no savings so I don't know what is going to happen. Add to that the fact that we have 2 germans shepherds, it's going to be practically impossible to find somewhere else. :frown:
Sorry to moan but it does me good to get it off my chest. Anyone got anything for rent in my area?

Could you contact your local council maybe ?

I have no immediate relatives in this area and I work 20 miles away so they won't help. The town I work in won't help either.

If you MAKE the landlord evict you the council will have to house you!

Yes they probably would have to, but they would only be obliged to give us a one bedroomed flat and we would never fit in!

The landlord isn't doing anything wrong though. Legally you only have to give 2 months notice. I have found out though that there is a benevolent fund for security officers who have been injured in the course of their duty, so we have emailed them to see what they have to say.

If someone has been injured whilst in work I'm sure I've seen a ad on tv that says WE CAN HELP! Not to sure who but most solicitors should know.

Personally I would go to a local solicitor and explain the situation. Not to take on the Landlord but as Dave says, to take on your husbands employer. Obviously not knowing all the details there are some assumptions, but the position you have been put in is because of the employers and not really the landlord.

If the company he worked for is legit and of good standing they will have the insurance needed to cover any compensation claims for loss of work due to such claims. You obviously need finances to enable you to move and the insurance company should cover this. You can always ask for an interim payment because of the desperate situation.

If there is already a legal claim then that is better as the insurance company will know what happened already and the solicitor will be in a much better position to ask for an interim payment quickly.

Either way, a meeting with a solicitor at your earliest possible time is the best move. Don't worry, they will not charge you as the fee I think is normally set and added to any claim.

Sorry to hear about your dilemma twinsgran. I actually thought a landlord had to give you more than the two months stated notice?. I know with my landlord (through an estate agent) I got 3 months followed by 6 months on renewal of my contract which is now on a yearly basis. As socialgiraffe mentioned.. its more a legal thing rather than a landlord thing. Might be better to seek legal advice asap CAB deal with a great deal of housing/tenancy claims and are also free to use.
