Hi all.

Has anybody any idea where i might find (if even available) blank wooden stable door signs, if they even exist?

or even what i could possibly use as an alternative? i've been asked by a farm where my daughter has a horse if i can supply them with custom signs.

Many Thanks
steve

Only thing I'd be a bit weary of is UV stability. Sublimation ink isn't very stable at all in direct light unless you use coatings etc.

My initial thoughts were tiles possibly mounted onto wooden frames, may be worth thinking out of the box for this one. Nicci at SubliMetals can cut into different shapes which may proves useful ?

Thanks for the reply.

Yeah i thought about metal plates but they really want wood :/ I thought maybe metal plates stuck onto the wood. I also thought about the UV issue too. will UV not affect metal? i'm guessing UV doesn't affect tile as much?

The UV will affect anything that you can sub onto, the image will disappear very quickly. We've done tests but it's very different where we live due to long summer days and high UV. Would you maybe be better to get something printed in a solvent ink/vinyl and apply to a wooden panel?

Hmmm, it's not looking good is it lol.

I thought about laquer or something to protect it but I suppose it wont protect against uv. Well this has given me something else to think about and puzzle over

The best for longevity would be the name routed/carved into the wood and painted to highlight. I think anything subbed or printed would be affected by UV relatively quickly. Print (eco solvent inks) on vinyl would last longer than subbed but even then it would only be a few years if you're lucky.

Carved is what most of them have already. They wanted nice printed graphics.

oh well, not a major concern, it was just a thought.

thanks all. It's saved me alot of time and waste trying

Hi, a couple of years ago I made some plaques printed on a canon ipf and then laminated onto aluminium for my daughters school garden. Still look good, bear in mind I live in Lancs and we arely see the sun

You could always coat them afterwards with a UV Coating. Marvel Press (among others) sell it in a spray form.

You can also get PLANX wooden signs which are available from The Magic Touch. These are for use with their laser papers but are specifically designed for the sort of thing you are looking for.

I also live in lancs tracy so not much sun lol.

I did look up on UV sprays but i also read they wern't really up to the job and dont really do what it says on the tin. But i've never used them so i wouldn't know.
i'll check out Magic touch now
