See HOW to print on a Mug Base Ear.

It's a Saturday Night, I'm in my forties so it's time for me to change into Heath Robinson.

Decided to try and Sublimate a Mug Handle.

Knocked up a Jig in an hour, basically this just holds the mug with the handle upright.

Use the Cap attachment of your cheap Chinese 50 in 1 bundle.

Let's begin:

Image

Make a 50mm x 10mm template in Photoshop etc and make your design - print it of course in reverse and tape it in place as above.
Slip into super dooper technical Mug Jig.

Allow blanket to reach idle temp (220f in my case) - probably best to use something as a heat sink to protect the blanket but I havent worked out the best way of doing that yet with my new high tech system.

Press:

I am keeping all of my times/temps the same as I have to use the same controller for Mug Bases, Mugs and now Andles.
190c for 190 secs.

And the result.... :

I would imagine all Sublimation Mugs have a coated Andle.

I am quite pleased with the result.

Edit: as you can see I used a scrap mug for this test - it is faded at the edges (cheap Mug Press).

Thanks for the kind words - yes, you can only give a rep point to the same person once a year or something like that :(

I hope my madness in the workshop inspires others to try new things, I find it rewarding when things work (some don't).

I did that the other night as a test on one of my mugs. I put my web site address on it. Just taped it well and put it in the halogen oven.....came out great.

great idea Nik...I've often thought about trying it, but never quite got round to it, and don't have a cap press to do it with!!
