Hi all,

bit of a strange one this.

I did a mug for someone recently who explained exactly what they required on it.

I created the mug prefectly (or so I thought) and sent it off.

When it was received, the 'customer' said it was great but unfortunatly was made 'left handed' and the wrong way around.

My question is this - what is the FRONT of a mug?

For example, say I have to put a number 1 and number 2 on a mug and the 1 is to be on the front of a RIGHT HANDED MUG MUG and the 2 on the back.

Once produced and held in the right hand would the 1 be on the outside of the mug that faces towards the holder of the mug (like the example below) - or would it be on the inside of the mug so you can see the 1 as you drink from the mug?

Image

Hopefully I've not confused the matter?

Many thanks

AB

No simple answer, when taking an order you have to get the customer to clarify whether they would like the image facing them or facing away.

It works for me

Thanks Ray - but as a generic question ................

would the front of a mug be the side facing 'away' from them or 'towards' them?

I thought that after looking at many mugs I had already, and other mugs that are produced I had an answer, but as you say - confirmation is needed if the mug is right or left handed and if the required image is to face them or face away from them!

If only life was so simple ............... !

I usually do side 1 as the main image so that it's always visible whilst in use....unless left handed!

as I thought, side 1 would be the front for Right Handed and side 2 would be the front for Left.

I always go for the front as being the face that is outwards from a right hander. The back/inside faces the drinker. Most promo companies go this way as well. The images faces away from the right handed drinker for all to see so is obviously the front..... if only life was that easy. It basically comes down to how it is seen in the eye of the beholder especially as they are the ones that pay. Best to always check with a digital proof displaying how it will wrap around.

I asked my wife the question and she said she would put the front image as being towards the drinker. Myself I would put it facing away from the drinker, a lesson learned ask the customer what they want.

Thanks guys for all the replies.

I think it's best to say that although 99.9% of people believe that the front is facing away from the drinker some (a small minority) think it's the opposite.

Indeed, a lesson to be learnt by me - and as far as a customer goes, it's no good telling them 'they got it wrong', as the person supplying the product should have covered ALL BASES!

Not that I did this of course, it became apparent when someone asked me a question .............. so I thought I'd put it here for input.

Thanks again all.

Ask, ask, then ask again. Then they can't complain! Well thats the theory.

I am a "lefty" and i always have this issue - the images normally are facing me and not facing out (if that makes sense) If im buying a personalised item i always make a note that im a lefty just in case. Then again, i wouldnt ever message someone to say its wrong LOL
