Hi Folks,
I have recently purchased a small little printing home based business consisting of a Heat Press, Mug Press, Cap Press and a Vinyl Cutter/Plotter. I also got a Brother DCP-J140W with replacement cartridges and sublimation ink. I have bought Sublimation paper for the transfer. Issue is - I design a coaster for example or a mug design and when I print it - it seems great on the paper but does not transfer at all. I have tested the ink by blotting a few drops onto paper and then transferring it to the coaster with my Heat Press machine and it works, so it is not the ink. The issue seems to be my printer....please help me. I need to get this sorted out so that I can start to work and its highly frustrating that in SA I can't really get anyone to help .... The cartridges are installed properly as it does print so that is not the issue?

Did the printer have ink in it before? If so you will need to flush all the non sublimation ink out first.

I could be wrong because I'm very new to this but I didn't think you could use brother printers for sublimation, I thought it was either an Epsom printer or a specialist printer

The cartridges were dry so I replaced them with the cartridges with Sub ink...how do I flush out the old ink?

Hi Snookles, the supplier here in SA sells the Brother printers for this purpose and I read on this forum that Brother is a cheaper alternative to use

Indeed brothers can be used.
To flush the old ink you need to run enough sublimation ink through to push out all the old ink in the head and the tubes. So print off blocks of colour until you press an item and it works. just re-use the same mug or coaster time and time again until you have success.
You could have flushed it with a cleaner but as you have already filled your carts that isn't so practical.

What Janners said is exactly right, although if you do want to use cleaning fluid (which might be a good idea) then you could always buy another set of empty refillable carts just for the cleaner.
