Re: Sublimation Dye, Epson XP-322, Installation Cartridges

Hi there :)

1st post here. After many months of having an awful lot of kit loitering around the house, we have finally decided to try and get this show on the road!

We are setting up a CISS system on an Epson XP-322 printer. So far, we are encountering the following issues.

1. How to remove the air locks from the CISS tubing. I have attempted to remove them using a syringe but the ink began pouring out of the hole in the top of the cartridge! The circuitry has been placed in such a way that it obscures 2 (!) of the holes so I cannot insert the syringe properly. Can I go ahead and try printing? Will that remove the air after a few runs?

2. I have begun setting up the printer drivers/software etc. The system has asked me to insert the installation cartridges. I am aware however that mixing dyes is not a good thing. Can I go ahead and use the installation cartridges without having to flush afterwards? Installation wouldn't be using the CISS system, so my head tells me that once the installation cartridges are removed, their is no normal ink in the printer to be flushed anyway. Would this be a correct assumption?

Many thanks in advance.

I had a CISS setup on my canon ix6550 and had similar issues. After sweating blood over it, I resolved the issue by removing the ink and putting it back in the bottles. The next step was to put the CISS in the dustbin for it's own safety. I then obtained some Canon refillable cartridges, put then in, and have had no problem since.

I have since heard that Canon printers do not take kindly to CISS but, having said that, I know a lot of Epson owners have given up and moved on to refillables as well.

Thanks for that Ray. Funnily enough, on waking this morning, I came up with that solution entirely independent of your post. Maybe I am a natural at this? Before depositing the CISS system in the dustbin did you manually deconstruct it first? Did you wear protective footwear for this as I want to dispose of the equipment as safely as possible.

None of the above - I got my wife to do it!

:D

We've got some refillable cartridges here so I will give them a go. Can I use the installation cartridges that came with the printer 1st then replace with the refillables? I don't want to mess up mixing different types of ink.

I don't know to be honest. Some say you must some say the opposite. I'd wait until someone who, perhaps, knows that printer comes along.

I use an epson with refillable cartridges the auto reset chip variety, the is a common mistake is to try and refill the cartridge when the printer software gives low ink warning, do not refill at that stage, you have to wait until the out of ink message is displayed otherwise the auto chip on the cartridge will not reset, until this happens. I gave up on ciss awhile ago after trying it for a second time, the carts are a much easier solution.
