These should to be connected to the mains to ensure their daily cleaning cycles occur. Says this in the manual which comes with the machine. Xpress might not have mentioned it but I seriously doubt they would have advised to switch it off. Depending on the warranty (some had an extra year thrown in) I think a service was included at the end because you can then choose to take up the extended warranty offer for (wait for it) £880 a year inc vat. Maybe suggest that if its still in warranty that they arrange that it has it done. Do remember to factor these costs in when weighing up a purchase. £880 of a new one is basically warranty cost so deduct it when looking at secondhand straight away. B)without warranty its £325 1st hour £125 thereafter +parts and +vat by Roland engineer. So one which has just been serviced has theoretically less chance of an imminent failure. A head is about £1200 for example I think. The head on it might be fine despite being switched off as it's been used weekly but only a print test will give an indication of that. Ask for a BN utility head print test and to see the results. Missing stripes = misfiring head = could be a problem. The media clips are dear and should be in place to reduce the risk of media crashing into the head. Having a stand with it is nice if you want that, irrelevant if you dont as it's called a desktop printer (big). I might be interested in the stand if you got it and didn't want that. Ink should be fine. Used machines are a gamble for which the price has to reflect that. Saving £2k but then getting a £3k bill a few weeks later for epic compnent failures isn't a funny prospect to look forward to

On this and their last listing for this printer they state "The machine was purchased from Xpres two years ago. It has hardly been used." Part of the Roland Care plan (£800) is that in month 10 they come and check it over and give it a good service.

I can't understand why they would want to remove the media guides..... that's just asking for a head strike

There should be a glut of ink coming on to the market soon as they have now been upgraded to use Max3 so everyone will be ditching there old Max carts.

These machines NEED to be used, the more they are used the longer they last...... don't forget it's an epson print head and what happens to an epson if it's not used regular.

If the ink glut means lower prices then I'll buy a few! Eco max 3 will be available in 500cc carts with faster drying and higher scratch resistance which all sounds good but you wonder if there are other reasons for the change. If you'd recently bought a machine this would come as a bit of annoying news unless they were to offer an exchange deal on the inks to anyone feeling hard done by.

if machine wasn't ON every day means nothing if it can still produce perfect nozzle check. It help to keep it healthy thou.

So as long as its 100% nozzle check now you are safe to buy. Just keep it ON. guy from xpres DID mention this to me...

one interesting thing.
XPRES advised to NOT use printable flock even if roland says you can ;)

yeah I've seen them at the shows, I'm going to get Xpres to print and cut some of my designs for me so I can press them on the products I want to sell with it as a final check that it's right for me and then hopefully xmas will go well and it will be my christmas present! keep being tempted by the second hand ones though on ebay but will probably end up getting a new one for piece of mind.
