Black Mug Designs
Re: Black Mug Designs
Hi, I just wanted to ask this question, although I think I might already know the answer. I am new to this and I have had someone ask me about about black mugs. I have tried printing full black images with the design on but I don't think it ever comes out true.
Is there a fix or is it as simple as it can not be done. Thanks

Re: Black Mug Designs
not really a "fix" but more of - time n patience
blacks coming out brown - to high heat / to long time cooked
make sure profile has been done correct for your inks/sub paper
use decent sub papers
use decent inks ( not necessary sawgrass stuff )
we do full top to bottom coverage black mugs no bother, ok it took us a few wasted ones till we got the temps/times right....but you do what you gotta do.
sorry, but there aint no quick fix for this, no magic button...wish to hell there was...

Lovely. I know there is never a quick fix in this process. Gone through a good few mugs etc trying different things. That is good to know as some are coming out a little brown which I now know it to long or to hot. More samples and test then. Thanks for the reply

start with 180 temp / 180sec ...and adjust in increments of 10 till you get the desired depth of blacks.
Re: Black Mug Designs
Photos are always a great help of any problem as often it is hard to describe exact issues. Many of us would have seen the problems though so sometimes easier to recognise. Bigj largely sums up the initial things to consider though.

Make sure your profiles are correct brown isnt just cooking too long some inks infact do not brown with over cooking some do . Makes sure the profile you have is the correct for your printer and ink combination also make sure youre using the correct colour space in your design , ADOBE or Srgb ? . Perceptual rensering intent can also have an effect on blacks if theyre out of gamut sometimes changing to relative can cure this issue.
