We have been using the Epson Workforce printers for quite a while now for Dye Sub, specifically the Epson Wp-4015. As this printer has now been discontinued we purchased the latest WF-5110 and some refill carts.
Unfortunately Epson appear to be one step ahead of the compatibles market as they now require the Epson installation carts to be installed first before we are able to insert the compatible carts.
This causes headaches as we now need to flush a large amount of Epson ink out the printer with our dye sub ink. For reference if you try and install the refill carts first, the printer states there is insufficient ink to do so.
Just wondered if anyone has a work around for this or can source compatible carts with a better chipset?

Can you swap chips ?. Also if you put in a set of empty genuine carts will it complain as they are swapped for compatible, possible it may be sufficient to register the initial ones.

Re: Epson WorkForce Pro WF-5110
Does the printer really charge with much ink? I know the Ricoh have long lines but looking at my Workforce i don't think it takes that much in?
Re: Epson WorkForce Pro WF-5110
I tried switching the chips thinking this would be a good work around, unfortunately the Epson cartridges now comprise of an ink sensor on the bag which connects to the chips for accurate ink levels. Can you swap chips ?. Maybe the Epson ink could be syringed out and then replaced with sub ink? I guess there would still be a small amount of contamination, whether it would be enough to affect the print out I would have to test. There is also the issue of whether the clever little ink sensor would know the bag has been emptied and refilled. Definitely one to test if we purchase another 5110.can't you put sub ink into the epson carts?
It appears so. I setup an A4 page of CMYK Stripes and have been test pressing every 25 sheets. It was around the 50 page mark that the ink started to noticeably change from Epson to Dye Sub ink but it still didn't sublimate as strongly as our other Epson printers. I've run a further 50 prints and now I'm happy its all dye sub ink running through so I would factor in 100 sheets (or 50 if you print double sided) to flush the lines out.Does the printer really charge with much ink?
