Plug-in to simulate embroidery effect?

Anybody know of a decent plug in to show how a design.logo would look in embroidery? I have downloaded a couple but can't for the life of me get them to do what I need. I do think it's me rather than the software!

The way I would simulate the effect is to use a "pattern overlay" in Photoshop if it's just for a proof or guide for a client. Ive got several fabric style patterns that I've put together. PM me and I can email them to you.
