network my rioch through my sky router
Re: network my rioch through my sky router
Hi guys and girls.
Being a technophobe ( not sure if that is even a word) could someone please give me a dummies guide to adding my Rioch 3110 to my router so I can print to it from the bottom of my garden in the man-cave. The reason it is not down here with me is the fluctuation in temperature during the colder months.
Here is my set up so far.
Indoors
1 sky router that the home laptop, HP wireless printer 5510, ipads, iphones and daughters laptop all connect to wireless.
By cable we have a WDLive 1TB hard drive, Sky box and also a plug system that uses the home electric wiring to make all my plug sockets with the adapter an ether connection to the router.
Man-cave
Laptop that is connect to the router using the electric socket and adapter. This is due to the wireless signal not being to good at the bottom of the garden and the laptop being old. An old HP 55 printer that is hard wired to the laptop.
I can print to the HP printer indoors as well.
I have googled this and found the conde videos but they say i need to set an IP address and follow another video to do this. I have been there and tried to follow this second video but as the router they use is not a sky one, obviously, I get lost and am worried that I may do something that is not reversible.:frown:
I am willing to call someone and they talk me through it. If you wish to PM me that would be great.
Many thanks for reading my post, I hope it makes sense.

Re: network my rioch through my sky router
All you need to do is set the IP address of the printer to something that falls in the range of your routers IP table. If I'm right, Sky's router is 192.168.0.1 (you can check by typing that into your browser address bar), so you could set your printer to 192.168.0.254 assuming you don't already have something else at that IP address. Then just plug Ethernet cable directly from printer into router. You may need to install the Ricoh again over the network, as I'm assuming you've already got it installed on the laptop as USB.
Re: network my rioch through my sky router
The Ricoh is on both laptops one in the house and the man cave. At the moment I design in the man cave save the file as curves,as some fonts are not on both laptops, open it in the house on the other laptop and connect via the usb to print. This is why I am trying to avoid.
When you say install the printer do you mean the Ricoh driver?

Re: network my rioch through my sky router
Yes I meant install the driver again and if I remember right there is an option to choose network or LAN, something to that effect. No problem with leaving it as USB on the one in the house if you prefer, although if you have it on the network it probably makes more sense to do it wirelessly!
Re: network my rioch through my sky router
So I assign a IP address within range, connect to router via ether cable, reload the Ricoh drivers using the network option and hey presto. Sounds so simple.
Should I delete the printer from both laptops first so I don't get confused?
I told you I am a technophobe [emoji3]

Yup that should be all you need to do. You don't have to delete the printer first, however if you only intend to use it over the network, it might be an idea. I know I confuse myself sometimes when I tell something to print and wonder why it's not coming out the other end, because I've accidentally selected the 'USB' version of the printer.

Re: network my rioch through my sky router
Give it a go on one computer first connecting to the network maybe, and that way if you have any hassle you can at least use USB from the other one!
Re: network my rioch through my sky router
I will have a go tomorrow and keep you updated. Many thanks for your help so far.

UPDATE
I have managed to put the Rioch onto the network using an IP address and the router. I have reinstalled the printer driver and renamed it Wireless. I still have the original driver installed as well when I use it with the USB. The problem is that the Powerdriver will only print through the Driver for the USB connection. I have been into the powerdriver setting a told it to use the wireless driver but nothing prints.

Re: network my rioch through my sky router
Well done on getting this far! I've never used Powerdriver so can't help with that in the slightest I'm afraid. I've always used ICC profiles directly as we use Macs. You could go down that route though, and use the Sawgrass ICC profile instead, or get a custom one made.
