Re: Blurring and smudges!

Post by mfacer »

Hi.. I have printed thousands of mugs on my single presses and never really had a problem.

I bought a 5-in-1 press to help clear a back log of orders over Mother's Day.

Using that, I started to see blurring and smudges on the mugs. I thought it was the press but then I saw blurring on my other presses which are usually spot on.

Could there be a problem with the mugs or the paper?! What causes it? I am assuming it's when the heat blanket isn't quite snug maybe?

The 5-in-1 press looks like it may not create a perfect snug fit. Sometimes it could be the mug not being perfectly round maybe?

Hopefully someone can clarify for me please? I've wasted loads of mugs recently!!

Cheers

Is your pressure changed? Is it higher then before?
When blanket is on its life end, peole tend to thing they need to put tighter preasure. This will cause blurring.

I have seen this in mugs that are not 'true' If the mug is not near perfect in terms of how round it is and or how straight the sides are you can get the blurring that is shown in your photos. As for the smudging, it appears all to be going in one direction - ie dragged to the left from each letter as though the paper has moved in the press.

If you put one of the same batch of mugs in your old press do you get the same thing happening?

The mugs look bevelled at top and bottom make sure the paper is cut below and above these bevels or it may be lifting youll struggle getting good pressure cos of these bevels, i had some mgs from BMS like this they gave me credit for .

I think thats just a bit of pin cushion distortion from the cameras lense. If the mugs were as distorted as they look in the photo in real life I would have expected the blurring to have been much worse

Did you ever find a solution to this? This started to happen on my mug press. More like the one on the right hand side. The paper would also appear burnt and a bit wrinkled on the patch where the smudging was. I swapped to my spare mug blanket and the problem hasn't gone away! I also find that if the images go too close to the handle on either side, they are faint. Trying to decide whether to buy another blanket or whether it's something else obvious. I may try reducing the pressure a bit as I had tightened it marginally.... Any advice appreciated :)

Hi - no I didn't really find a solution to be honest. If I need to print a mug where the design has a lot of coverage, I will tend to use the better quality press rather than my 5-in-1 one. If the image is feint near the handle, that's probably just the handle taking away some of the heat from the mug? I know I struggled to get prints too close to the handle - possibly the sleeve isn't getting as hot up near that part. (mine leave about a 1" gap where the handle is.

Hi,
I think it is because of pressure problem.

Having got a batch of mugs from a different supplier, this problem hasn't happened since. I believe it could have been a bad batch? The pressure hasn't changed - yet I've just not seen it happening since changing the mugs! :)
