Mug Pressing problem from a Beginner

Hi could somebody please tell me what i might be doing wrong with my mugs not making up at the bottom
I purchased the BMS DF14 mug press but i have been having problems with the image looking faded at the bottom of the mugs
I have tried all the recommendations such as pressure and time and heat but don't seem to be able to resolve the problem
The paper also seems to have small creases in it but i have made sure it is as tight as i can get it to the mug and it does not overhang the bottom
any help for this Newbe would be greatly appreciated Thanks

The mug isn't straight you need to bring your print away from the bottom of the mug.

Thank you for your advice i will try reducing the image a little and retry, i was hoping to be able to get a full image

Yeah, you need better quality mugs if you're to stand any chance of printing a full, top to bottom image. It's plain from your pictures that that mug tapers quite noticeably at the bottom. It's also a good idea to pre-heat your mugs before sublimating at the recommended temperature as the mug base (and to some extent the handle) acts as a heat-sink and draws heat away from the bottom or handle-side of the mug.

Thank you for your help Webtrekker, the mugs i am using are the European style mugs from BMS, is there a different style that is better suited to full wraps?

Those mugs are very high quality therefore it may be the case you are using a cheap mug press as those mugs can certainly be printed top to bottom. The suggestion of pre-heating the base would be your best bet or using a more quality press (adkins studio press).

The thing is, I can't understand why the wrap is so wrinkled at the bottom unless the mug tapers, and it sure looks like it tapers from the photo.

If it's due to uneven heat in the press then, apart from pre-heating, try turning the mug through 180 degrees in the middle of pressing, so that top and bottom get equal times on the same parts of the blanket.

Failing everything, and if you definitely want full top to bottom prints, buy a silicone wrap and sublimate the mugs in an oven. There are some good, cheap halogen ovens available that will do the job, plus you can usually fit a few mugs in at one time, depending on the size of the oven. Just a thought.

Thank you for your reply, i did not think it was the mugs because everybody has said how good they are but i wasn't sure, so i think i will need to try a different press like you have said and see if that solves the problem Thanks

Thanks webtrekker i can't see to find out why the paper is creased other than what you have suggested, the only other thing i can think of is that the Blanket is not making even contact with the mug, which might be a pressure issue, the press was from BMS so it should be a good quality one. still trying different things and hoping to find the answer thank you for your advice

You can use a mug that doesn't require the base to be pre-heated, Xpres or Raja Wycombe are excellent mugs.
