minimise the total cost of packaging and posting?
Cardboard box @ under 20p + bubble wrap at 1p, scrap card cut down from the boxes that the mugs come in originally - bobs ya uncle - 21p worth of packaging and few if any damaged mugs. :D

bubble wrap at 1p
If bubble wrap is that cheap, why bother with the box

I buy my bubble wrap in at £7 per 100m, so 1m works out at 7p - i get 5 mug size strips out of each 1m so per mug its about 1.4p. I wouldn't bother with the box but the postie would keep popping the bubbles if i didn't.

I use the polystyrene boxes that BMS sells and haven't had one breakage yet (I don't use extra bubble wrap).

I did try the smashproof boxes from subli-supplies but they worked out (i) more expensive and, (ii) the added weight just increased postage costs.

If I send multiple mugs, I use the 6-way polystyrene boxes which works out even cheaper on a per-mug basis.

I do only send 10oz mugs, though. If I did 11oz mugs with the large handles, I'd use something else - or stomach the extra cost for the smashproof boxes.

Don't put "fragile" on a parcel, they see this as a challenge. Try writing "please throw underarm".

I agree with gorgall, it's the "fragile" sticker that's doing it, the posties like to play footie with fragile stickered parcels, sadly :(

And RM do cover ceramics, you need to use special delivery though

Cheers Kaz - special delivery eh - well thats my profit gone!! Oh well, its been nice knowing you all - hanging up my sublimated slippers now!!

Now there's an idea! Have i just stumbled across a niche?

I will omit the fragile stickers - although have increased size of my boxes & they are cheaper & more bubblewrap

200 4 x 4 x 4 boxes £34
200 5 x 5 x 5 boxes £24

EH????

cheers guys
