Hi,

Does anyone use Rolands PrintStudio for wide format printing RIP.
We've just purchased the new iMac which doesn't support Versaworks.
Just wandering wether to buy printStudio or use a dedicated Windows machine to run Versaworks

You would need to buy a copy of Windows to use Bootcamp. You also need to make the choice of which operating system you need to boot into each time. My opinion is that it would be far more effective to buy a pc with Windows already pre-installed. We have 3 machines running Win7. Two are dual core and only cost £60 each. The other, my main machine, is an i5 quad core with 8gigs of ram, 2Tb hdd, powerful Nvidia discreet graphics card and cost just over £200 from ebay. Much better than forking out for a copy of Windows just to use on the inferior Bootcamp.

The main question here is why Versaworks cannot be installed directly on the all-singing, all-dancing Mac? Windows machines get knocked a lot, but Apple machines aren't always the best option.

answer is because ROLAND have extremely expensive RIP software for mac and don't want to give it away with the machines! is like they are not expensive already!

I run parallels on my Mac and have windows 10 installed.
i then have a second monitor with windows at full screen. That way I have the Mac as a Mac and the second monitor as my windows machine.
I just move my cursor from one screen to the next and your all good. You can even run the programs in a Mac window (coherence mode) if you want it to basically look like a Mac.
Works well and parallels was only $69 aud to buy so will probably be cheaper for you.

Thanks for all the replies. I've decided to put a dedicated computer just for the Roland and versaworks. I have it connected to Dropbox as well as the mac so I can transfer files really easy. It's been working for almost a week with no issues so all is good for the time being. It's a shame Roland don't do a Mac version. I certainly can't justify the cost of their Mac Rip software.

You could always try networking the Mac and PC together to share files.

Another way is to add usb storage (external HDD) to your router if it allows this, then both computers can read/write to the storage.
