Re: Best Epson for A3?

Hi all,

I'm back after a bit of a break away from sublimation! Moved country, and then house, so been a bit busy but now I'm looking to get back into it with some new gear!

So my first question, from what I'm reading the Epson 1500W appears to be the most recommended for A3 at the moment? Or are people using any other Epsons? I've gone down the Brother route before, but had quite a bit of hassle with the printer so I'm thinking the switch to Epson might be a wise move.

Second question is, are people using refill carts for the 1500W, or CISS? I think I prefer the idea of refill carts, but am open to suggestions!

Third question relates to ink. I've got CMYK Sublinova Smart that is past it's use by date. Anybody here using ink past it's use by date, or should I really avoid it?

I'd be grateful for any advice that you all might have, and am glad to be getting back into sublimation again after so long.

1500 by far the best A3 for sublimation.

I have one setup here with a cis, I might be selling it very soon.

Just buy new Sublinova Smart ink, it can be bought cheaply. I've had no trouble with my 1500W and plan to buy another one.

Depends how out of date the ink is ... a few months would probably be OK depending on how its been stored but the colours may not be perfect., but too old, or badly stored will block the printer.
For the price per 100ml of Sublinova and the risk to a brand new printer, I'd definitely just buy some new.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Justin, keep me in mind if you do decide to sell, although I'm not sure shipping to Ireland would make it worthwhile over buying new where I can get free shipping from Amazon.

And on the ink, I think you guys are right. Hate to have to throw ink away, but yes a lot better then messing up a brand new printer. I think I'll definitely go for 100ml bottles this time. Went for the litre bottles previously, but that has proved a bit wasteful now.

Used to have CISS on my 1500W but it caused problems (due to a faulty unit I think), currently using refillable carts and having no problems at all.

May go back to a CISS in the new year when I am not as busy and have the time to set it up properly.
