Sextortion Email Scam

I'm sure we're all aware of sextortion - Man/Woman Boy/Girl chat online and share intimate pictures, the problem arises when one is a fraudster.The fraudster will threaten to share intimate pictures of the other to their social media account for all to see unless a payment is made! The effects can be devastating.

So, I check my email many times a day and I receive a rather alarming email, it's alarming because the author of the email has included a password I've used. I've copied the email below and where the password was, replaced it with **************

I'm sure some will make a payment but this just leads to more demands.

As I don't have a webcam, I knew the threat was without any credibility and ignored it. What was a bit scary was the fact that one of my passwords was included within the threat. I checked all my email accounts to see if they had been compromised and several more had been. There are online resources you can use to check your email accounts.

Despite the fact that I work for the Police, I didn't report the emails - I've had many since.

You are not my only victim, I usually lock devices and ask for a ransom.
But I was struck by the sites of intimate content that you very often visit.

I am in shock of your reach fantasies! Wow! I've never seen anything like this!
I did not even know that SUCH content could be so exciting!

So, when you had fun on intime sites (you know what I mean!)
I made screenshot with using my program from your camera of yours device.
After that, I jointed them to the content of the currently viewed site.

Will be funny when I send these photos to your contacts! And if your relatives see it?
BUT I'm sure you don't want it. I definitely would not want to ...

I will not do this if you pay me a little amount.
I think $835 is a nice price for it!

Don't respond, but change your passwords.

Scan your devices for malware, keyloggers, etc.

If a scammer had compromising photos of you they'd probably supply a sample in the email to further prompt you to pay up, so don't worry about it.

Not replied, passwords changed PC is constantly monitored and regularly scanned.

When I think of all the large companies that have been hacked, many will have been holding my information. Sometime back my ISP was hacked - TalkTalk! Then there's Facebook, Barclays and so many more. So it's hardly surprising some of my info is out there, in a way, it's become an expectation.

Of course, there are those far more vulnerable than myself. If the email had landed in someone's inbox that had engaged in online chat and shared intimate pictures or watched porn, such an email could be very alarming, so much so, they pay up!

Some people out there make this World a horrible place - politicians included.

I got a few similar ones when I was on holiday (note...never check emails on holiday!). LinkedIn was hacked a few years ago and they got everyone's password.

The other version of this scam is that they start the email by revealing your password. Then go on to say that they uploaded software when you visited a porn site. They caught you doing rude things by hacking your webcam and will send it to everybody in your contacts and social media. Then demanding $3000 etc.

You know yourself that they don't have anything on you, but it's what they are capable of. Sending any embarrassing video to everybody you know is the real risk.

Just delete the email, don't worry and totally rename the passwords. Millions of people have been sent the same email.

I have had 2 emails exactly the same this week, I just Block and Delete without fully reading the emails

No one would be remotely interested in seeing my boring viewing history, and I have never used my laptop webcam, it's always covered

I do remember that the passwords supposedly hacked are nothing like anything I use
Unfortunately I do use the email address they come to, else a would switch it off for a few weeks

I've just looked back, the oldest "Final Demand" I had was in August, the hacker must be having trouble activating his "rat software" and back then it was only $350

Had the same myself, would normally ignore and delete but same, they quoted one of my passwords.

I forwarded to the Police as they have an email address for this type of thing....never heard a thing back, glad I pay my taxes

Get your passwords changed, i recommend Lastpass which generates random secure ones, then you just hold a master.

Theresa MAYBOT as Home Secretary and now as PM has effectively destroyed the Police force. I didn't report my email simply because I know they simply don't have the resources to deal with it.

MAYBOT want's people to turn against the police or blame them, the same goes for the NHS, she wants this so privatisation can be ushered in.

I won't go on, suffice to say, I hate her.
