In colder months when the room is freezing overnight, I get out the Andrew James grill, you'll get about 8 mugs on there. Put it on the lowest heat for about 10 mins and that resolves any problems.

Some mugs are thicker at the base, but quite thin elsewhere, the 10oz Listawood mugs for example, so the heat sink problem is exaggerated. I find that the Xpres mugs are more solid all round, so I don't generally have the fading problem.

As mentioned above, I also only use XP5013 mugs and tbh haven't had this issue recently. It does seem to differ between mug types.

If I do have issues I just insert into the same press for 10 secs, remove, add transfer and press. Sitting on top of the flat press if it's on for 15 minutes helps take the chill off

I have a small food warmer for other work and this works well.

Yeah, more down to the mug rather than the press design, (unless your blanket is failing). If I pick up some mug samples and the bottom fades, I reject them. I've no time for such things..idle temperatures, pre heating. Just press and go!
