Re: Not made in China?
Perhaps not something which comes up often, but does anyone know which mug blanks are and aren't made in China?
It's difficult to have an ethical policy when the origin of these things isn't stated in the places where they are being sold.
I want to de-Chinesify my supply chain as much as possible.

Xpres mugs state Made in Thailand, as are the inappropriately named, 'white Rhino coated Wycombe mug' from The Transfer Press.
There's a company in the USA called Bison Coating which does a lot of speciality products such as sandstone coasters. But when I spoke to them about distributors in the UK, they said that our supplies were not interested in their products and only stocked Chinese imports.

I heard they also supply a product called Western Lowland Gorilla Water Bottles.GoonerGary;141590 wrote:the inappropriately named, 'white Rhino coated Wycombe mug'
Plans for the Sumatran Tiger Penis iPhone cases were, however, shelved
Thanks for the info.
Be nice if there were some mugs made in the UK. Some people might even be prepared to pay more for them.

Re: Not made in China?
Nope, some people bought the Chinese imports instead of the superb Tams Durham mugs. Have a look at this 'not at all dated' looking website.SubOnCotton;141593 wrote:I heard they also supply a product called Western Lowland Gorilla Water Bottles.

I'd take a pound less profit per mug if they were made here.
Anyway, looks like I've got a steep mug learning curve ahead of me.

Hi SubOnCotton,
Our mugs are indeed made in Thailand;
https://www.xpres.co.uk/p-7856-coated-c ... -10oz.aspx
You mentioned your ethical policy, one thing we do is back our products up with our ethical statement:

Hope this helps you!
Thanks
Adam

Raja's factories are in Thailand, and are Rhino coated for their sublimation mugs (they don't just make sublimation mugs)

Re: Not made in China?
Nice thought, but probably not likely. The UK's world leading pottery industry closed down because the public were more interested in price than where the product was made.SubOnCotton;141593 wrote:

I can understand the mindset that a person thinks they are smart if they pay a bit less for something, but it's the long term effects which really matter.pw66;141791 wrote:Nice thought, but probably not likely. The Brits of the future will not be so happy that their parents paid a little less once upon a time so that China could become strong.
Thanks all for the info.
Re: Not made in China?
I am sure if you really wanted to have your mugs made in UK you could, but you'd likely be looking at more than £1 more than imported ones, unless you were wanting substantial quantities.
There are still some UK manufactrers of mugs - Emma Bridgewater would be the first that comes to mind - not sure how much they'd be interested in making blank mugs for you. Then Listawood's website say they do mug coating in the UK, so in theory what you want is possible, if you're willing to pay for it, and then pass that costings onto your customers.
