Incidentally, if they purchase from somewhere such as Xpres or Graftyp then they will be able to provide the correct profiles etc for the garment films they end up using.

They may have a bad vinyl. Some won't accept ink in. I had it with red.
Another possible cause can be temperature. If is to low, ink will run or bubble. So ambient temperature is also very important.

Bought from Xpres, I'll speak to them about profiles.

To reduce waste you can wind media back, half way along clamps or whatever your comfortable with. Check the media isn't curled and raising the media clamps. Then slip something over the media sensor, the hole on the front right ahead of the media clamp when the head is doing it's width scan. It will then think the media is covering the sensor and save you a good amount of vinyl at the start.
