I have been printing a few bits to static cling (it’s the printable version) and had a few problems.
1. Printed side onto glass surface: If left in place for more than a day it leaves ink behind on the glass and the cling becomes unusable again.
2. Printed side facing out blank side to glass: If i use a squeegee to apply to a glass to get it flat. some ink scratches off the surface leaving white surface visible.
I have tried printing draft mode and in high resolution with no difference.
Am I doing something wrong?
Roland BN-20

Re: anyone print to static cling?
Is your RIP set to 'overprint'? You could be laying too much ink down in whatever mode you are using.
You would usually apply to the inside of a window with the ink away from the glass. Have you tried usinf a felt squeegee or even a teflon sheet to apply?

Im not sure where the overprint setting is?
Im using versaworks v6.8
I dont seem to have a profile for static cling im using generic vinyl, but there are some on roland do you think that would help?

I don't use a Roland, but if it is anything like the Mimaki Rip then it will be on the same menu as the print resolution/quality.
Profile might help.

Re: anyone print to static cling?
I use the Penstick Static Cling from Grafityp.
Printed a few rolls in my time both on the clear and on the white. Never had an issue with the white using a gloss print setting in Versaworks and the Sign & Digital profile. The clear has always been reverse printed (I can print white and metallic on my VS) but the white is printed face on meaning the ink will come into contact with the glass. Even with full coverage the cling sticks to the window.
One thing I do know is that I have always left two days plus to dry. Not sure if that makes a difference but only time I have had issues like yours is where I put the signage up too quickly.
