Re: Rock slate alignment help required

Post by 23express »

Morning all,

Scoured the forum before I went on to sub my first rock slate. Valuable advice and great tips so thank you.

Preheated, slate face up, sheet over the top and the results were good enough. So no issues as such with print itself I feel however my alignment was way off i.e. not centralised so will have to do this print again, but feel I will come across the same issue as not sure on a fix.

Is there a way/ technique to use to help with this.

The slate size was the 20cm x 30cm (when measuring is was about 19.5cm x 29.5cm) - I am aware slates are like this and it's fine.

I only have an A4 printer and wonder if that may be the issue as I couldn't see exactly where I was placing the slate over the image before taping and then flipping over and placing on the heat press (face up of course).

In the pic, you can see the top design is partly missing (as the arch should meet in the middle) and the alignment is more to the left than central as you can see from the 2 designs in each corner!!

Any advice or tips would be great but not sure how to full proof this going forward without wasting slates and prints etc?

Cheers

Your design is larger than A4 paper. You need to print slightly larger than your product, that way you can flip it over and sede where to line it up. Slates you need to prinjt slightly larger anyway to enable the edges to print.

Thanks Justin. Would you also suggest that to be on the safe side (as the face of each is smaller and different in each case) that I bring those details in and away from the edges?

This way, the design could be seen better maybe?

Your design needs to fit the main ares of the slate, obviously they don't print over the edges due to the slate edges.

Yes I thought as much now that I have made that mistake. Plenty to learn. Let you know how I get on [emoji106]

Thanks again
