Re: Logo on Mugs

Post by Kerryann »

Hi All, I'm new to the forum and new to this sublimation thing!
I'm curious about how I can best include my brand name on sublimation mugs? I am printing my own art onto them, and don't want logo to be overly invasive.
I feel my preferred option would be printing on the bottom of the mug - how can i do this? Are there smaller handpresses to print on smaller surface areas such as bottom of sublimation mugs?

Thanks!

You cannot print onto the bottom of mugs as usually there is no coating on the bottom as well as no press capable. Go get some waterproof round stickers made which will peel off after a while but certainly for retail use will do.

thanks for your response. Your solution is what I thought the only way possible too, so thanks for confirming that. Worth asking though.

If I ever wanted to do this I would try getting a rubber stamp made and then stamp the bottom using dye sub ink and then sling them in the oven. No idea if it would work but certainly worth a try.

As I only use ovens it would not actually add that much time and certainly no additional electricity to do, but as I only deal in bulk B2B I have no call for base prints.

Are your mugs glazed on the bottom? ISTR in the back of my mind that you should re glaze on top of the rubber stamp then put in the oven. Its a distant memory but I'm sure someone on here used to do this 10 - 14 years ago.

No idea as I have not tried it, but it all depends on how they are coated. If coated upside down then they would be glazed. If not, it would not be too much trouble to get some spray coating from Subliglaze.

There was a guy called Nik from Gt Yarmouth who did build something that had relative sucess

Issue is always the lack of sublimation coating on the base.

We had limited success a few years ago coating the base and sublimation printing. The next issue is how flat the base is which complicates the application procedure but isn't impossible.

Unless you have the market for a large number of mugs I personally wouldn't bother.

We did have some printed for a customer but it was Listawood that did them and they are no longer trading. (Plus most arrived smashed!!)

Attached a couple of images we did via sublimation that came out OK, consistency was an issue.

We have been thinking about starting to offer a service to brand the bottom of customers mugs for them as we have other ways in-house it could be done. Obviously the logistics of sending mugs is difficult due to high prices but if we can work something out we may start offering it.

If anyone is interested please drop me a PM.

What about UV DTF transfers.
There are suppliers who can print them by the metre, you should get a lot of small logos on a metre plus the advantage of not needing the bases to be coated and heat press not required.

We make these in-house so I'm going to see how durable they are, should be pretty good.
