Re: Any ideas? Kids Activity Wall

Hi all,

I have a wall between our shop and the one next door and as we are off the main road I thought I would utilise the space with a kind of activity wall for the kids.

Our shop is focussed around kids and personalised products so it would work quite well, and let's be honest - if I can create something to bring more people to the door then everyone's a winner.

The idea I have is to put two 5ft by 2.5ft banners side by side to take up the space and I am designing a few activities to go on them.

My hope is to have something that the kids will want to come over and look at and also for mums and dads to bring their kids over to see, and there will be a free competition every month to do with the wall.

Also, normal stuff like the alphabet with images (a for apple etc) and also a measuring chart that the kids (and parents) can keep an eye on their growth.

I have a few ideas of my own such as guessing the cartoon characters from their shadows and matching up famous duos (Batman & Robin etc) - and I know the images may be copyright but we actually sell 99% of the official character wear (clothes and accesories) instore.

There will of course be a few pop up signs on the wall to grab mums or dads attention but that's the idea .................

..................... anyone any ideas of things to put on there?

Can you put anything on the wall that can stay there?

Thinking along the lines of blackboard paint, paint a section and that way the kids can make a mess omn it and you can wipe it clean at the end of the day.

If you're doing the abc, could you do numbers on it aswell?

Or how about a where's wally type thing?

Will have a think and see if I can come up with anything else

Good Idea Kaz ................ I had a similar idea but I was a little weary of the 'older' kids sticking up toilet graffiti that I wouldn't notice until I cleaned it off at the end of the day.

I was also thinking about using some of the sublimation metal that is the silver effect. This reflects a little so I was going to try putting things on like a pirate patch, beard and hat so when the kids look at themselves they're a pirate! (not sure it would work though?).

I also started working on some graphical fact images (animals, plants etc) ................. this is starting to be a school project!

it might be worth asking at the local youth group for some "older kids" to come and tag the top of the wall, above where you want the kids bit, a lot of tagging projects going on now, and looks cool as an art form, and involving the "ignored" age of teenages

Cracking idea Laura, but I don't think this will work.

There was already a 'tagging' problem that was eradicated some time ago and I wouldn't want to be the cause of it starting again as one group will be 'allowed' to tag something.

I do, however, work with the local youth clubs and many bring their tag designs down and I put them on t-shirts for them. This allows the creative juices to flow and get it out of their system with things that I can only describe as 'works of art' ................. although I do have trouble reading them from time to time!
