That's about the size of it. It's a bit ridiculous isn't it?daviddeer;22032 wrote:So my understanding is that ORCA mugs are dishwasher safe but listawood say they aren't. They print well without blemishes as the coating goes into the pitted surface. RN coated mugs are dishwasher safe and suppliers state that but the coating does not go into the pitted surface so they show little white spots. So it's best to buy non-marked ORCA mugs to avoid customer disappointment. OR is it best to but RN mugs and put up with the imperfections?
Has Orca Coatings changed?

Re: Has Orca Coatings changed?
I'm with JohnG on this. There was an issue with RN coating in 2010 and all these mugs were sold as B grade. If this pitting issue was widespread we would hear about this a lot from customers (we don't). Given the volume of mugs we sell, and Listawood sells (duraglaze = RN) I think it us unfair to give a generalisation that RN is pitted and Orca isn't. The glaze coatings are sprayed on - the same way for Orca, the same way for RN. In fact the factory in China that puts Orca coating on also sprays RN coating. RN is much more durable than Orca and that even comes from the mouths if the developers of Orca.daviddeer;22032 wrote:So my understanding is that ORCA mugs are dishwasher safe but listawood say they aren't. That's easy to say, but those of us who have been stung by it, didn't see an improvement in the "fixed", ones and are out of pocket due to having 10oz and Sparta mugs that we can't shift, find it very difficult to believe that everything is hunky-dorey now. Once bitten, twice shy, and all that.
Re: Has Orca Coatings changed?
Just a thought, Martin, but are you able to sell your RN mugs in a pack of 6 as you do with some of your other mugs?bms;22053 wrote:There was an issue with RN coating in 2010 and all these mugs were sold as B grade.
I'd like to try them out again (because I'd really like to switch back to using RN mugs if they're okay), but I'm not prepared to risk the cost of another full box.

I understand where your coming from JSR, but these comments just arent generalisable. If I get the chance next week I'll print a full wrap black mug to confirm. And yes we can sell in 6 packs if needed. We always have a box open.

I'm intending to order a bunch of coasters in the next day or two. If I can order a 6-pack of mugs at the same time to save postage, that'd be ideal.

Re: Has Orca Coatings changed?
I don't think the gap between some of the newer coatings such as Orca is that far behind RN. RN is still the beston reputation but I see no effect on Orca coating on our own dishwaher tests as of yet. We've been using an alternative coating recently which although currently unbranded is still very stable in the dishwasher. I would put both of these coating above Rhino in my opinion. It's a formula at the end of the day which is largely replicated with enough adjustment to not directly copy. Through trial and error replicating the RN coating can't be beyond these manufacturers. I'm surprised RN doesn't lower it's price to keep out the need for new cheaper coatings. I have very few customers that have asked me the name of our coated mugs, they just ask if they are dishwasher safe. RN means a fair bit to us but not the end user, they just want a mug that works.bms;22053 wrote:RN is much more durable than Orca and that even comes from the mouths if the developers of Orca.

That was quick.
I've just placed my order, and I've included a 6-pack. I'm also going to try out your Xpres paper. It must be the week for experiments, or something...
