You can use normal vinyl (not garment vinyl). Just cut it and stick it.

It will be raised though and not dishwasher proof.

Got to ask why you'd want to put sign vinyl onto a mug?

Hi Laura, Yes I have done stickers for school water bottles but on a mug the vinyl wouldn't last long.

I've used the MT laser printable vinyl from BMS (with coverseal coating) on a steel travel mug, and its stayed on perfectly for the last two years in and out of the dishwasher. Not been used as much as a coffee mug but still good.

I use the sub printable ali ones now, but I was trying out a sample print a couple of years ago.

Is there not a black mug available which has a white square for sublimation?

don't like them :/
if you look closely you can see where white square ends.
and also it's too small and most likely only from one side.
so how are professional dark mugs made?? as they looks like some kind of vinyl heatpressed onto mug. that's why I though it's possible

They are screen printed then cooked in an oven or conveyer drier.
