Re: Website content Rip-off
I agree on a personal site being used by Joe public it maybe enough to deter them, but if someone is going to use your pictures commercially then they will use them regardless of what pop up/message is displayed.
Re: Website content Rip-off
^^ i would edit your post slightly...it looks like your saying that YOU would use them!
"then they ill use them regardless of what pop up/message is displayed. "
ill^ "will" (yes/no) typo

Don't know if this has already been suggested, but how about putting watermarks on all your images that you put on your sites?
That way if anyone does try to steal them, they won't be so quick to put on their own site.
I know of an ebayer who used to have his pics stolen quite regularly, and as the person taking them wasn't savvy enough to do it properly, just hot linked to them, he went and changed the pics to something, erm, slightly risque and then reported them to ebay for having pornographic content, or changing them to a piccy saying "these are available cheaper from blah blah"

It tends to be content and ideas people take from other websites. Images are a known problem on places like ebay though. One of my sites branding is looking like it is in the process of being copied, all be it slightly different.

Watermarks are ok but you have two issues, if you plaster the image with a watermark it can be quite intrusive and does nothing for the product being displayed, its hard to remove and not worth the effort in reality. The other more subtle watermark in a corner is easily removed. Both are pointless and not necessary really because if someone wants the image badly enough they will just use it regardless.

One answer might be to take pictures of you holding or wearing the item. Then with yer fizzog all over ot you have living proof of copyright

Yeah you can do that but if you have the original file with the exif data intact thats all the proof you would need as it would hold all the data that the person who lifted the image couldn't have for themselves.GoldRapt;28444 wrote:One answer might be to take pictures of you holding or wearing the item. Is it possible to do something to the gif/jpeg/png so nobody can right click it to save/copy it?
I know they can still do a screen grab but I would have thought the res would be that bad it would be unusable.

You can work a javascript into the coding of a page John, or perhaps even just change the html of a page so it disables the right click ................... but it's just a change of code and anyone knowing 'where to look' will still get hold of the image.John G;28500 wrote:Is it possible to do something to the gif/jpeg/png so nobody can right click it to save/copy it?
