Re: Counterfeit Goods
Your still profiting off counterfeit goods how ever you look at it hence the moral dilemma. I never said whether or not I would actually do the job just playing devils advocate.
John your correct its not your job to confirm the authenticity of the goods you are given but when they scream out counterfeit to you surely from a moral stance you should act upon that. Now if you had no idea if they were counterfeit it would be different but making for sale stickers for DVD's you know to be counterfeit or for sale stickers for cars you know to be stolen that could be seen as immoral as you are effectively helping someone profit off counterfeit goods for your own financial gain. Basically turning a blind eye so to speak!!

Any way - how do we know they aren't real Nike hoodies and the guys trying to pass them off as SG hoodies.

Re: Counterfeit Goods
They could well be. In this instance I would give the guy the benefit of the doubt it sounds like he has probably saved his struggling football club a few quid if they aren't genuine, he isn't likely to be profiting himself off these so no one is really going to care and he has probably helped the clubs finances no end.John G;31079 wrote:Any way - how do we know they aren't real Nike hoodies and the guys trying to pass them off as SG hoodies.
The subject matter is good discussion though morally i'm happy to help someone like in this instance who isn't profiting off counterfeit goods rather than someone is obviously ripping off a trademark for resale.
Re: Counterfeit Goods
that seems to weaken your original argument though.... a lot of people break the law to survive...pitkin2020;31080 wrote: he isn't likely to be profiting himself
Anyways, personally I'd do it, its not nec up to us to be the morale police!!

"I have nothing to do with this! You aint seen me....rightpitkin2020;31074 wrote:so what you saying is then my mate Dave can supply me with counterfeit DVD's i can then add the title on with a sharpie and thats morally acceptable?? I haven't copied the film I have just worked on a supplied DVD!!
IMO Dave, i dont see why you asked this question, for me i'd just crack on with the order and make money! If someone gave me a load of hoodies and were willing to pay for them to be personalised, I wouldnt ask any questions at all, why? coz its not my business where they came from - I'm given some tops, asked to put stuff on them, whats the problem?
counterfeiting is passing off goods as original merchandise, and saying that they're original goods from the manufacturer. If these hoodies are genuine Nike garments with Nike on the inside label, then they're clearly stolen (in some way) because you said that you noticed where the Nike logo was. Why the person has picked the Nike "tick" off is upto them, for me though I would just carry on. I find it strange that someone would do that anyway, unless they got the tops for a silly price which was cheaper than buying some Fruit of the Loom hoodies (which is probably the case)
"Well morally by working on the counterfeit goods your no better than the person that added the fake Nike logo. Its a bit like putting a copied dvd into a sleeve to sell and saying because you didn't copy it then its ok!!
Being moral though doesn't always put food on the table!!" Pitkin2020
Sorry, I find that a bad comparison. The world of business is corrupt to the core! Its not like Dave has done the 'bad deed' himself. Its obviously the first time he's encountered this situation and to label him just as bad is wrong in my opinion. Moral dilemma's dont put food on the table, doing the job does. This situation doesnt make Dave the mastermind criminal of the century, but it does complete an order and he profits from doing a job for boys club. Its hardly a bank heist. I respect your opinion, and i hope you respect mine, and lets not start a "moral" thread war.
Dave..."Just do It"
oops lol
Dave, soz, i mean errrr "Bob"
Re: Counterfeit Goods
I did say I was part way through the order before I noticed, and I only noticed because of shoddy workmanship.
When I mentioned it to the customer he was fully aware it's a problem, they are a FA Charter Club so they have to be cleaner than your average pub team. The guilty parties are actually the sponsor and the company who embrodiered them. The sponsor said he would provide them and told him he would get Nike tops. When they turned up my customer saw the problem, even more so before his wife who is in the police force
They have ordered badges from the FA to cover it up, at the sponsors expense.
We get a large number of chavs in our shop asking for branding to be stuck on a cheap tracksuit, we always turn it down. Somebody else locally is obviously cashing in on that market, I now know who it is
