Re: Black print goes brown after heat pressing

Post by breezedesign »

All of a sudden when I heat press an image that is black it comes out dark brown now on my fabric, this has been baffling me for a week now, but I think it could be down to the paper as it's xpres own A3+ paper and ive been told it's not the best and a cheap chinses import, but I ve used this paper with no problems for 18 months till now, infact this is a new batch of paper as i buy it in packs of 10 so it could be this

So I have bought some tri pix paper from BMS instead to see if its the paper.

Can anyone help me please.

Cheers
Simon

Hi Simon and welcome to the forum :-)

I've been using Xpres paper for many years now and have never had any problems with it. I choose to use it over any other paper currently available. Might be worth doing a quick search as we've discussed blacks turning brown recently, otherwise members will be along shortly to advise I've no doubt.

If its happened all of a sudden, and all prints before that were good - I wouldn't rule out the heat/mug press over/under heating.

It is often a case of too much heat with a brownish tint but there are other reasons. What time and temp as well as which product are you printing? Is it just the paper that has changed since this has been happening?

Blacks are often hard to get right as you can easily get greenish/red/brown tints if the profile isn't spot on. We always hgad greenish tint on 1290's years ago with powerdriver.

A photo of the problem print would be good.

i agree i find the older the blanket the more this happens could be a precursor to a blanket burn out either way try dropping the temp a little see whAT HAPPENS

I has this problem with my new mug press following the instructions that came with it (insert mug - set heat to 160 and time to 200-300 secs).
I followed the advice here and now heat with a scrap mug in the press, add the one to be sublimated when it reaches 180 and then once the temp reaches 180 again. press for 180. Black is really vivid and shiny now.
