When the co was founded, who runs the co, where you are based, what you specialise in - good start

Look at a site you like the look of, take their text, add your own details and mix it up a bit.

It wouldnt be *cheating*

So something like "The company was set up in 2005 by Adam R & Mike D" becomes "Adam R and Mike D set up the company is 2005".

It's an old journalist trick.

Best to write down everything you want in it first (as suggested above) then trim it down rather than trying to trim it before its written.

As a web designer in my normal 9-5 role I find the "about" page often causes the most confusion amongst those I work for.

My usual response runs along the following lines -

Use it to promote why the reader should use you (years established, experience etc) but also use it as an extra opportunity to get your important keywords and phrases on the page in sufficient density to get more value in seo terms than just three lines about you/the company which from an seo point of view will be fairly useless.

You can also use it to talk about tue products you sell and why, the quality, value, great service etc.

Personally speaking I rarely read about pages past the point of establishing it's not some fly by night venture, the rest can be used to promote your keywords and/or differing keywords than your home page
