Sending Items to Australia
Re: Sending Items to Australia
Hi All,
Has anyone sent items to Australia which are a bit bulky?
I need to send 4 T-shirts, 3 Mugs, 2 Small Books & 2 Mouse Mats which come to a weight of 3.2kgs. I took the package to the Post Office & was quoted £86.
If anyone can recommend any couriers to send the package with I would be very grateful.

Had to do this a few times myself, if you can split into a <2kg and a 1.2kg package it's much cheaper.
hope this helps

Re: Sending Items to Australia
Ian,
Flying Al is correct. There's a 2kg limit for Royal Mail small packets sent overseas, you've probably been quoted for a Parcelforce service. Split in two it will cost you about £37 airmail, about £23 surface mail (but will take up to 8 weeks - James Cook did it faster!!)

Re: Sending Items to Australia
Many thanks Al & Michael.
I just tried Parcel2Go but, everytime I get to the address confirmation & click 'Next Step' it comes up with this :-
The courier has been unable to match the postcode to the town or city.
This may be due to a different spelling.
The following are some suggestions to try:
NEW GISBORNE
BARRINGO
I went back & made sure it was correct & still it won't go any further. I contacted their live help service who told me to start again which I did & still got the same message everytime.
I think it is going to be 2 parcels at the Post Office now.

Re: Sending Items to Australia
may be worth going directly to a courier
i know that parcel to go is handy as it searches the best deal

Re: Sending Items to Australia
Steve,
I have used Parcel2Go now & the DHL courier has just collected the package. The problem with P2G was that their system just kept asking if it was going to New Gisborne or Barringo & wouldn't let me select the correct town. One of the staff at P2G did all the paper work for me in the end which was helpful.
The next headache was getting all the customs declaration paper work filled out correctly & making sure enough copies were attached.
The driver from DHL was superb & went through everything with me & told me everything they do to make sure your package is delivered.
I know at times we all play hell about companies such as DHL & P2G but, on this occasion they have bent over backwards to help & answered every single question I had.
To finish off the Post office wanted £86 but sending via P2G & DHL was just £41 & they even pick it up from your home.

Re: Sending Items to Australia
Hi Ian,
Cool, glad you got it sorted but I'm still convinced you've done yourself out of a fiver by not using the PO
Parcel 1 (2kg)
£4.26 for the first 300g
£18.87 for the remaining 1700g (17x £1.11)
Total £23.13
Parcel 2 (1.2Kg)
£4.26 for the first 300g
£9.99 for the remaining 900g (9x £1.11)
Total £14.25
Grand total = £37.38
PO customs form CN22 takes 10 seconds to complete, job done
Every pennies a prisoner, lol.
Cheers
Al

Thanks Steve
As I write this I have just checked the tracking & my parcel which was picked up yesterday afternoon left Heathrow at 8.34am today.
To be honest I think it is worth spending a little bit more for the service I have recieved from P2G as they have been fantastic.
