Re: sublimation slates
I've just received some slates from BMS and not one is the 8"x6" as stated on their website one of them is only 7x5.2",
has anyone else found this with their's also i don't feel the quality is up to scratch as there is a lot of defects on the slate front which you print.
I've already had some from Coral Graph and they were great (got more on the way)

Have you spoke to BMS about it Mattie? I'm sure that if there's a problem they'll do there best to help/advise.Mattie;32867 wrote:I've just received some slates from BMS and not one is the 8"x6" as stated on their website one of them is only 7x5.2"...........
Regarding the size, I have used a few slates and as you say they were all (slightly) different sizes (only used ones from BMS though). To be honest I did have a few problems with printing them but that was early days trying to get the temp/timings sorted.
As they're a natural product everyone is unique (as far as I understand it) - but for the size difference have you measured the 'back' of the slate? This may measure the correct dimensions with the front being varied dues to the cut?
Don't know buddy to be honest - but probably worth a call to BMS?
Let us know how you get on

Re: sublimation slates
I've emailed BMS.
Yeah i measured the back and the front side the back is the largest measurements (as above) i under stand they are a natural product but i don't see how this can effect the size as surely they are cut to size. some of the faces look a bit effy to i'm not sure if i even want to waste my time/ink/paper printing them.
The one's i've printed from Coral graph i've not had any problem's with at all.
i'll let you know how i get on.

Re: sublimation slates
Just curious Mattie, what's the differences beween the 2 slates from the 2 different suppliers?
You're probably a busy man but images for comparision would be great if you could as I stopped doing them after the first couple. If the Coralgraph ones print and look better then I may look into the slates again as they do look VERY NICE when printed.
Tip for you though (sorry if I'm teaching you how to suck eggs), don't use any photos that don't have a lot of background/room at the top of the image (above the subject in frame) as you may find bits of heads missing when they are pressed due to the irregular sides (happened to me a few times).

Re: sublimation slates
Adam i've not got any pictures of ones from Coral Graph as i don't take pictures of items when printed, Coral graph do various sizes and shapes i can't compare them print wise to BMS ones as not printed one from BMS yet but in terms of quality i.e print surface, shape, roughness etc i would use Coral Graph.
I've just had email from Martin at BMS he has now changed the size on their website to say "approx". It makes it a bit tricky to advertise them to my customers the fact that the size varies as i don't want to put on website and brochure that sizes may vary (that puts me off when i buy stuff) if they are cut to size they should the size they are cut to after all it's the finish that is "a natural product" not the size of it.

These are my first attempt at ones received yesterday from Coralgraph. After they were done there were a few areas that didn't look as if the ink had taken but it was gone from the paper. I actually threw the first 2 in the bin then when i did the third it was the same but as i was going to throw it anyway i wondered how quickly they could be cooled (and would they of cracked like ceramic will) so i put it in a bowl of warm water and when i took it our i noticed that the faded areas had gone!!!!!! Turns out the faded areas were just a very fine layer of the paper still stuck on the front which came off when wet. I fished the other 2 out and Woop woop they looked fine after.
Do you think they look ok?
