Re: BMS Cotton Flex Problems

Post by Bob700 »

Hi

I've just started using BMS cotton flex for the first time and I'm having trouble making it stick. I'm using cotton t's and pre pressing them, my press is set at 175 and I press for 20 secs as instructed, I've tried hot and cold peel with some off cuts on a t shirt but as I say it's not sticking too well and the backing is a nightmare to come off, my press is set at medium, if anyone can give me some advice I'd be grateful as I've no margin for error on this job.

Thanks Bob

Press at 175 - 180 degrees, 20-25 seconds, medium-firm pressure. Allow to cool and peal off backing.

All flex is, is a heat activated glue backing to the material. So long as your press is up to temp then the glue activates and sticks to the garment. The backing peals away when cool leaving just the flex stuck.

I had this same problem with somone else flex. but I tell you that 175C is much to much heat for flex imo!
and the backing is a nightmare to come off...
try 150C for 10-12sec. I have feeling that 175C-180C for longer then 20sec may burn the flex so thats why is so hard to take th carrier sheet off. try it with some off cuts and let me know. btw. peel cold.

I understand that John this is supplier recomended time and temp but many times I had to try other options as supplier ones wasn't acceptable.

After a few experiments I got it sussed, I used BMS's instructions and was a little more paient with it, the downside is that it's left me a meter short for the job, if I needed to place a order for other colours of vinyl then I'd just add but I'm ok for all other colours of vinyl so if anyone has a spare meter of Lemon Yellow code 115 they could sell me that would be great as ordering 1 meter at a time from a supplier can work out expensive.

consider it a learning curve, its if you are a metre short then you must have used more than off cuts to practice with ?? im sure you can take the hit of buying a single mtr.
