What paper are you using and does the ink coverage look even and correct on paper?

If the image looks 'mostly smooth' then it should transfer 'mostly' okay. If the image on paper doesn't look perfect then it may not transfer perfectly especially onto something as unforgiving as a piece of metal. Unforgiving because the coating is so thin, as compared to a t-shirt, fabric or mousemat for example. On these products there is more absorption of the ink.

I think you need to rule out the substrate (the metal) by printing this same image onto something that you know has printed okay in the past like an old t-shirt, a piece of white polyester material. If this prints perfectly then you know the image on paper is okay and the press is okay, pointing the issue at the substrate you're going on to. If there are still problems printing onto the other item then it may be something to do with some other settings, e.g. too long a dwell time.

Worked out the problem, it seemed to be the paper changed to a new pack of true pix and problem has gone away. even did some tests on old pack and had same problem.

So I'm wonder if true pix has a shelve life or maybe a faulty batch or something.

Could be damp paper - warm a few sheets with a heater/hair dryer and then do another print test.

Cheers John
