Dye sub Printer and Holidays
Re: Dye sub Printer and Holidays
From what I can gather, the printers come to grief when you fail to run the ink through them on a regular (twice a week) basis.
So as a "one man/woman/? band" what happens if you go on Holiday for a couple of weeks?
Do you
a. Assume you need to buy a new printer when you return because the last one has ink dried in it.
b. Ask somebody to come in and run it, like feeding the rabbit.
c. Run some sort of cleaner through it so as it's ink free, thus only loosing the ink in the pipes for the clean, and the ink for the re-prime.
I hope it's "c".

Re: Dye sub Printer and Holidays
Which printer do you have? Are you using CIS or refil carts...and lastly, why on earth are you going on holiday! lol.
Re: Dye sub Printer and Holidays
Hi Justin
Have yet to purchase a printer, basically doing the homework first. If you have time over a coffee have a peak at my "hello" it has gone off track (as all threads should!), but it will give you an idea of my warped world.
It will probably be the Epsom B1100 with CIS or refil carts (Martin at BMS has yet to have the pleasure).
Holidays..... yep we love to dream (why are we self employed....?)

Re: Dye sub Printer and Holidays
Lol, I've been following the threads...of course
The Ricoh printers are probably the best if you're going to have to leave it for a while. I 'think' they may even do a self maintenance test daily if left switched on but may be wrong.
I have a few printers here and a couple don't get switched on more than a once or twice a month and they're always fine. Personally I only ever use refil carts over a CIS.

I chose the Ricoh due to the fact that it can happily be left and doesn't have an issue with it as I do vinyl work as well as subbing and sometimes it's left for a week at a time without being used.... I do sometimes leave mine on though and it does run itself through maintenance..
I think some others as Justin has said, don't have issues with other printer makes..

You can program a test print to be sent to the printer every day to keep it running ok.....but your PC would also need to be on all the time! lol.

Re: Dye sub Printer and Holidays
i use cis i never switch the printer off made that mistake before....last time i went away for two weeks i think it may have needed a head clean but it was fine its an epson 1400 btw i reckon a lot depends on how often the printer is used before you go away my printer runs every day i think that helps
Re: Dye sub Printer and Holidays
Your printer will need a holiday aswell as you, so take it with you the problem is solved.
Jack.
Jack.
If at first you don't succeed, read the manual.
Re: Dye sub Printer and Holidays
I might be tempting fate here but after 3 weeks away I printed from my Ricoh 7700 and hey presto...no problems. I did a fair bit of research before buying and have to admit I am pleased I bought Ricoh and not having to worry about gummed up print heads if I go away any time.
