why does internet explorer have to be so horrid?

i am in the process of re-doing all y hosting sites
and have nearly finished all the coding etc and it looked lovely, had some great feedback.
i've even done a massive advertising campaign thru google and FB etc

only to get an email off a friend saying have u checked the site on IE

nooooo cos i only have a mac.
it turns out the whole site layout is completely off in IE to the extent where you can't do anything with it :(

how annoying is that????? and i've now spent most of the afternoon trying to figure out how to fix it to no avail as yet.

what fun hey

I read a long feature on IE just today. Many folk were saying 8 is horrible whilst 9 and 10 (didn't know there was a 10) are far better.

Personally I use Chrome and find it faultless. I have considered looking at IE9 out of interest.

Just checked out our google analytics and in the past month just over 34% used IE followed by Chrome, Firefox and then Safari. It's still a very popular browser.

I would use IE if there was a portable version of it. There isn't, so I use Seamonkey out of choice, but have alternatives such as Firefox and Qtweb as backups. If it ain't portable, I don't wanna know!

I wonder if these are all legitimate IE users, or if many of them are using the likes of Firefox but with the IE Tab plug-in? There are some browsers for mobile platforms like the iPad in which you can change their ident thingamebob to report that it's a different (desktop) browser. It's just a thought.

No matter why you think Chrome/Firefox/AnythingElse is 'better' than IE, fact is IE is built into every copy of Windows, whether sold or bundled, and the PC is therefore 'internet ready'. A lot of commercial business software is designed for IE (I have to use it in my day-job for applications that use a browser client, any other browser may or may not work or display correctly).

Guess it makes it a nightmare to check browser-suitability for sites, but if the majority of your potential customers use it then surely you have to take it into account? Trying to explain the speed comparisons, security issues etc will fall on deaf, if not ignorant or naive, ears...
