How long will that hold true, though? Eight years ago, 90% of internet users used Internet Explorer. Today, some figures suggest it's down to 25% or less (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usage_shar ... b_browsers).

Many users are choosing not to use Internet Explorer. In some instances, they have no choice. Linux users, iPad users, Android users, etc - none of these use Internet Explorer - and that's all in addition to Windows users that choose not to use IE. Although IE is "built into" Windows, it's not like the old days. When using a new computer/Windows installation for the first time, you're asked which browser you wish to download/use. No one needs to believe they're stuck with IE these days. This is probably why IE's market share has dropped so drastically in recent years.

Edit - stumbled across this site: http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_stats.asp - which suggests that Internet Explorer use could be down to as low as 16% now. If true, it's rapidly being relegated to "minority browser" status.

Well who only uses one browser these days? I often have ie 9, chrome, opera, firefox all open at the same time. Why do I do this. I just like to keep my different surfing threads seperate.

Couldn't you just have multiple tabs open in the same browser? After all, if a job's worth doing... oh...

When my website was running it looked great in Firefox and Chrome but really pants in IE. Not only was it on the blurry side but the formatting was all over the place. My stats showed that although most visitors to my site used either Firefox/Chrome, IE came a very close second so plenty are still using it.

The W3Schools stats for this year show Safari & Opera pretty much stable at ~4% & ~2% market share, Chrome increasing its share at the expense of Firefox & IE - but IE is still a major player at 3rd most popular browser. My point being, if you are a 'general user' then use whichever you like best - if you host site(s), then cater for the most popular browsers or lose potential customers...

It shows how the world of browsers is changing. It used to be that we'd design websites for IE and then put in tweaks for other browsers. Now it's a case of designing for other browsers and putting in tweaks for IE.

I never have less than about 20 tabs open in each of my browsers hence why I use multiple browsers to keep 60 to 80 sites up at a time. Like I said I am a bit of a browser junky
