Hi
I'm Steve in Lincolnshire and I'm an Addict
Oop's sorry wrong Forum

I'm a self taught large format printer, vinyl sign maker, engraver and embroiderer using Roland, HP and Ramone products and done quite well at it, I thought I'd add sublimation printing to the services as its easy....wrong.

I've never pulled my hair out so much and have had to go for double sessions at anger management clinic.

My blues are Green, my reds are orange and my icc profile is probably a wireless network driver.

Like most I've started on that most evil of printers, the Epson S22 with a ciss system and an icc profile that just says 4 colour epson.
My inks are cyan, yell........ got you going, Um don't know, they came with it.

Not got a problem with throwing more money at it but a disheartening start.

Welcome Steve :)

I presume with the setup you've elected for you 'happy' to self teach yourself on this as well :-) There are easier ways of getting started and getting results, but if you want to continue with what you've got then you're going to need to speak to Paul (one of the Mods) to get a custom profile for starters and then you may learn that the S22 is... (no I'll hold off by saying any more as there are some that use it okay!)

Hi Steve, welcome.

I too am using an S22 setup.

I had major problems at first, blaming the refillable cartridge when it turned out to be a crappy printer. Got a new printer and everything is now running fine.

I don't use a profile, but my images are cartoony, so I don't need precise skin tones etc.

Let us know what settings you are using to print. I use plain paper setting as the other settings were causing the ink to bleed out, lol.

Just buy a tonne of sublimation ink for your wideformat printer - I am sure sawgrass would love you buying a few litres to play with lol

But seriously Paul is your man for an ICC profile to make colours more realistic.

Anyway best of luck and I am doing the opposite - I started with dye sublimation and now want to experiment with a wide format printer!

Bought a secondhand 44" pigment ink printer recently and just managed to afford some inks and now it is a matter of seeing if together they work (or can be made to work).

@Worthdoingright
You will have no problems stepping over the fence, its a breeze compared to this. Just make sure you get a quality RIP software.
In this day and age where everyone is going Eco-solvent there is less choice for media but can let you have details of the best place for banner, vinyl and poster media.

Hi ReDecal

Welcome to the forum. This made sound like an insult but its not trust me.

Like me you have Roland and HP wide formats and presumably your embroidery machine is good quality also. So why go cheap on the dye sub route? In my opinion, knowing that you are used to top of the range printers, I would throw away what you have and start again with hardware that is designed to do what you want it to do!!!

Become a premium member and then purchase a Ricoh from BMS with their discount scheme. This will resolve your issues with the print. If you are still having problems then I would look at replacing the mug press with a good quality one also. Decent kit will result in decent results.

Sorry to bash the S22 but it is not a supported printer and almost every week it seems that people are having problems and I just do not understand why if you are trying to learn a new technique you would create more work for yourself by purchasing "work around" hardware.

If you want, I am only down the road offer my services to show you how its done! You are more than welcome to pop down to my place and I can show you how easy it is to dye sub with the right equipment. I have done this recently with Craig from the forum and he will vouch how useful it is to have some one to one time.

Lastly, have to disagree with your comment about best place for banners... that is clearly over here LOL!!
